Hey guys!

Recently took delivery of a new IM Nuvo EXT 50 Lagoon! Tank is really sharp, in fact, its stunning. Im almost to the point of leak testing it and finally my ocd has caught up to me. There is a little blemish along with the typical few little scratches here and there on a new tank. It almost looks like a tiny little crack from something hitting it. Its on the front panel, top edge of the glass, almost dead center of the 10mm glass. Its about 5-6 inches from the corner. I really didnt think anything of it until i got the lighting going and started obsessing over it lol! I sent a few pics to IM and they sent a pretty generic answer saying its fine. Im not knocking them, they were great through this entire process. Soo far im very happy with them and probably will buy a bigger tank from them when im ready. Anyways, i snapped a few pics with my iphone at 2X zoom for you guys to check out. The first one is from directly above. The second one is actually from below, looking up through the glass. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Looks more like a tiny chip to me not a crack, IMO thats nothing to worry about. if it is actually cracked I would be concerned.

Doesnt really feel like a chip when i run my finger over it. It really doesnt seem to penetrate the glass at all. It looks like its on the outer surface. When looking from the side you cant tell that its even there. Its only from above and below that you notice it.

I think you will be fine, lets see what others have to say.
Hopefully some others chime in. The way i see it is this. I can either start demanding IM send a new tank and put everything on hold with my build until i come to a solution with them or i fill her up and move forward and see what happens. The tanks in my unfinished basement so its not the end of the world it it fails. Obviously thats the last thing on earth that i want to have happen. One thing i could do is ask IM to upgrade me to the 3 year warranty program since they are confident it will be fine. When purchasing a tank direct from them they offer the 3 year as an upgrade.

My IM 20g came with 3 scratches one dead center on the back and once on each side. I wasn’t happy as I wasn’t sure how it would look with water so I emailed BRS (where I bought it) the scratched one was repacked at ups within an hr and BRS sent a new tank same night. I wouldn’t take a scratched tank if you just purchased it unless you got a deal.

If you had to use this tank it would be okay I’m sure but you paid for a nice tank and a good penny also so get what you ordered in a blemish free tank is my suggestion. Use the time to plan out the build some more.

I chipped mine with the bottom of a glass measuring cup while adding some salt during fill up in about the same location but more towards the front edge. So upset with myself. I am going to use the stuff they use to repair glass with to make it less noticeable. As far as whether or not it would cause the tank to fail, I would bank on nope. You should see all the chips around the edge of the holes we drill in our tanks. I know how you feel. We try so hard not to scratch or mar our tanks. I once had a big rock fall against the front of my biocube and I obsessed on it.
The reason I replied was to say that if you decide to live with the chip, that the location and size might make it something you could fix with the epoxy they use for repairing windows. I’m going to try the stuff they have at the auto parts store for like $5 .

It doesn't really bother me but i dont want to worry that 2 months out of warranty a friend bumps my tank bam it decides to give out. I think ill ask IM to see if they will extend my warranty, that way i can not worry that it could turn into a total loss...

Well for anybody who cares to know, IM granted me the extended 3 year warranty! I must say, their customer service was excellent! Ive got the tank 3/4 full of tap water as a leak test currently and will be filling it all the way tonight!

I certainly wouldn't worry about that blemish, esp from a structural standpoint.

For a little levity, I've watched this tank hold water for 14 years now, so I think you're good.

This is where I am.

I'd have no misgivings about picking this tank up heavily discounted - but if I bought it new like that? Nuh-uh.
