Hi,

After more than 10yrs without aquarium, I recently came back to the hobby. A great pleasure, however I’m dealing with some algae (not plague proportion yet, but I’d like to correct proactively if needed..)

I need help of more experienced reefers to assess what this is and how I should react...

2 shots of the algae (looks brown, cover almost everything, looks a bit “hair” type if left some time to grow)

My setup:
- reefer 250 with 2 hydra 26 (65G system)
- skimmer nyos quantum 120
- approx 40lbs of established live rock from another reefer (admittedly, some pieces looked much better than other who looked still very “white”) -> it was partially an “aquarium transfer” since I took rock, some water and a few living organisms
- 1.5 inch of Caribsea Hawaiian black sand
- few corals (softies, hammerhead frogspawn zoas)

The tank “transfer” happened approx 3 months ago, but virtually everything was new apart liverock and 50% water.

Parameters:
PH 7.9-8.3
Salinity 36ppm
NO3 undetectable
PO4 0.05
Ammonia undetectable
NO2 undetectable
KH 8.7
Calcium 460
Mg1420

Livestock:
Juvenile Purple Tang (doesn’t seem to like much that algae though)
Juvenile clownfish pAir
Juvenile McCoskers wrasse
Juvenile Yellow Wrasse
Juvenile Orchid Dottyback
2 juvenile cleaner shrimp
Cuc = mix of snails, approx 14 of them, one fighting conch

feeding:
Approx. 1 cube of frozen Mysis per day, in 2-3 times (or another frozen food)

I personaly see nothing wrong here. If you're expecting to see one of those algae free, mature systems... then you're right on track. Just need a little bit of vitamin T as they say. You'll get there in a few months.

Pretty much what my new tank has done after adding some live rock from an established tank. I'm pretty sure the GHA loved the new lights

Thank you for your reassuring comments!! Just wanted to ensure that I’m not on a wrong path :)

I’d be more worried if it didn’t grow a bit of algae tbh. Buffer up the clean up crew if it gets worse.
Thanks for the advice. Indeed I’ll monitor the evolution/trend in the next few days/weeks
