I wanted to start this thread because I am still learning and want to make sure I'm not blowing things out of proportion.

Within the last few weeks, I have had a fish die. Instead of letting my cleanup crew finish him off, I decided to tear up my aquascape to find him. This caused me to reposition many of my coral. I then broke out with a case of ick, which was noticeable on my tang and my trigger. Being afraid to pull them and put them into quarantine (had a bad experience with last fish), I treated with Kick-Ick. I later learned from this group, that Kick-Ick wouldn't work, but completed an 11 day treatment. I noticed some of my corals weren't popping like they used to, so I did a 30% water change to remove the meds from my system. Meanwhile, my tang looks better, but my trigger still has spots (which I know I need to pull him and treat him in my QT).

As I want everything to survive, I'm concerned that some of my corals are not responding very well. It has been 2 days since the water change. Last night's test results:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0 - undetectable.
Alk - 9.3
Ca - 445
Sal - 1.026

Corals:
Torch (open big for most of the day, starts to shut down in the evenings)
Hammer (opens slightly, and getting as big as it's capable of)
GSP (opened after water change, now only a few polyps come out)
Digitata (polyps not coming out much at all anymore)
Birdsnest (looks good)
Hydnophora (looks good most of the time, polyps start retracting in the eveing)
Clove Polyp (looks good)
Montipora (looks good)
Chalice (looks good)
Mushrooms (look good)

I fought Ich a few years back. Unfortunately, if you want to get rid of it, you need to move fish into QT for 3 months. Good luck.

I will preface this by saying that my tank is old (almost 21) and stable. When a fish dies in my tank it is often where I cannot get to it. I've never had an issue with a dead fish decomposing in the tank. Most of my fish are on the smaller side as my tank is a 58 gallon, large fish could cause more of an issue. I would guess that tearing up the aquascape stressed your remaining fish and caused or at least contributed to the ich outbreak, and also stressed the corals. Good luck with your reef.

I think someone from the Fish Disease forum @melypr1985 may have better response for you.
