Am I ready for corals?Amm

120 gallon setup for about three months with a sump. Everything has been stable. CUC is thriving and so are the fish. 2 firefish, one clown, three glass cardinals, 5 pajama cardinals, and a yellow tang. Added in that order over a month’s time and seem to be doing great. Parameters are as follows:

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0
Salinity 1.025
Ph 8.2
Calcium 500
KH 8
Magnesium 1550

I’m thinking that I’m ready for some easy soft corals. Like a leather coral. What would you get? I want an anemone but I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet. Any suggestions would be great.

It’s recommended to add coral after the ugly stage of the tank because parameters aren't fluctuating as much
Anemones needs really good lightings and a tank that 6+ months old

yeah the ugly stage blows ...currently in the 3 week of diatoms and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel...they brown up everything in the tank including corals, glass, food clips and anything that sits still... I would not recomend corals until you get through the uglys

I tried a Ricordia during my uglies and it didn't make it. Uglies still going strong at 5 months.

I haven’t had diatoms in over a month. I cycled without fish so I’m through the ugly phase. And believe me, it was ugly lol

Not at 3 months your aren't done with the uglies. Sometimes takes years.

Go for it. Get some leathers, shrooms, softies, whatever you want really that isn't terribly hard to keep. Algae will come and go, diatoms, w/e. Don't see the need to wait extremely long for anything other than harder to keep stuff like some LPS and SPS. I'd wait a bit longer for those, and for the nem you want. My first coral 3 months into my new tank was a torch that thrived.

If you think you’ve past it and are ready for coral then go get some. It’s just a recommendation to help the coral survive and thrive. Not about if the coral is easy to keep alive or not

Go for it! I wouldn’t hesitate if in your shoes . Lol I put my very 1st coral (neon green hammer) after my tank cycled (10 days with Dr Tim’s) . It was a single head 5 months ago . It’s now 4 heads and growing !
