Am I running my tank too hot?

Just got my apex in today and saw this! I have observed no ill effect on my corals however!

I really did not know what my temperature was as old thermometer would fluctuate alot

Thanks guys! I got my apex set to alert me if it ever reaches 80 f or drops to 72 f - does this seem reasonable?

Pretty reasonable.

I'm curious why you chose a 3 degree swing high for alert but a 5 degree low swing alert? Not bad just curious on the thinking.

I set the high and low thresholds one degree outside of normal for me; I want to know if something is "odd" as soon as it happens so I have more time to act to correct the issue.

My usual temp is 79.5 in the winter (gives me a little extra time in case of a power outage). The power to my two heaters is programmed to turn off if the temp rises above 80.5. I also have an email alert if the temp falls below 78. Not because 78 is a problem but because my temp is so stable that much of a drop is a sign that something's wrong.

I have two heaters controlled by my apex. One is basically a backup set to come on 1.5 degrees cooler than the other. That way if the first goes out the backup will come on and only come on as a backup. I would set my alarms a little closer than what you have set for.

I run at 77 to 78 degrees. In the Caribbean, the reefs I dive on can often range from 72 to 84 degrees depending on the season and currents.
