In need of input from tang collectors. After a debate of which tang or 2, I'm not sure if I'm right or not. I'm crazy for a black long nose and finally ready to get one, but I'm not sure if I should. The wife believes I should spend the amount on a purple and a mystery wrasse pair. So.. if you were going to get a tang in my shoes, would you get the black or would you just watch the videos of them and save the $$ ?
BTW: this is for my 125 with a flame wrasse and a Picasso clown pair.

id get the black tang over the purple any day.
i have a black and used to have a purple (which turned rogue) so i might be abit biased :D

1smile1 Awesome. Thanks again. Looks like the Black Tang is winning this small debate here.

i think thats what happened to the orange shoulder.
just get the black tang youll be happy.
till you get it then you will be on pins and needles worrying about it for about a few weeks.
mine came from dan@ PIA actually at this point i think every fish in that tank still is from PIA

Get the black then the purple later

Would love to pull this off, but too afraid what a purple can be, I had a purple once before that took on a blue jaw trigger. The local reefer I seen this weekend had 1 sailfin, 1 purple, 3 scopas, 2 yellows, and 1 shoal. Crazy enough, the sailfin controlled this entire group.

I believe it my sailfin is a major capital ****** lol! Usually purples are fine if added later down the road

Thanks. Looks like the black tang for sure, began looking tonight. :xd:

Ahhhh no you're not!

I'm going to pick it up before you do!

I've been searching for this badboy for a very long time and have yet to find one, I do but they're all very large sizes.
I'm hoping for a small 3-4" max.

Can a black and yellow go together?

I have found them between 2-4 inches. I almost would prefer a larger (3"+) one to start with. If I come across 2 (online, 1 for each of us), I'll keep you in mind.

Can a black and yellow go together?

IMO, the black first, then the yellow. I believe the yellows to have a bit of a temper and the blacks usually are a bit more laid back. Just my .02

Blacks are not aggressive, they're like the hippo tangs, although they're a zebrasoma.
I've seen the majority of them coexist without any issues with other tangs.

Most of the hawaiian fishes aren't aggressive towards eachother unless they're the same exact species.
I guess there can only be one :)

wanna bet?
ive seen mine attack larger tangs.
if you put the black and yellow together with some sort of partition at first till they got past the attacks. i would imagine it would work out, but i wouldnt try it myself.

i should also stress that it wasnt an instant attack.
it was more the harassment with some attacks every now and then.
it wasnt upon adding the other tang either it as like a few weeks later

The purple will be one of the more agressive fish. I have kept them for many years. Although beautiful, I personally think the black tang is just too plain for my taste and would go the purple route.
