I looked in my tank today and saw my amano shrimp carrying tons of eggs! What should I do? I know the babies need brackish water to survive, but how do I cycle it fast enough? I have a saltwater and freshwater system. Thanks! It's OK if everyone here is saltwater and doesn't know anything, I just know how great this forum is, so I thought I'd take my chances [emoji6] [emoji6] .

sweet! from what I know of this guy its near impossible to breed. I havent read for a while how long the gestation period is and the mating cycle. as a brackish animal it shouldnt care about the speed of the swing as I understand it. a couple weeks should be more than adequate. this is also assuming the eggs are still viable and now fertilized.
ie spawn in salt retreat to brackish for birthing.

I used to breed all kinds of freshwater shrimp include the Amano.
Kept them just in freshwater but did water changes with a high PH water.
Sold the shrimp farm 4 years ago as I couldn't do it all, still have tons of shrimp I'm the koi pond as in Amano's, Cherries, Blond Blues, Black bumble bees, on one point I had also breeding in one of my stock ponds for lilies the Crystal reds but didn't see them last year.
Maybe I'll found them this year again.
Oh yeah, the Koi will feast on them but they can't get them all as my pond is lined with tons and tons of rock.

Really? thats cool. most of the breeding stuff I read was hobbies based in home stuff. yours was on a much larger scale i assume?

Yes it was.
I had 20 tanks in a spare room to be on a constant temperature.
Did WC every other day just one gallon though but still.
I did sell them on my EBay account and I supplied 50 to 100 shrimp every week to two LFS in Houston.
The Crystal reds and blacks grade SSS were going for $25 each and for the SS just $12 each.

Yea some of the fresh shrimp morphs are ridiculously priced. As far as I know these guys haven't been bred due to having a larval stage that travels into brackish water and then back. It would just be trial and error to figure it out. Also feeding the larval stage could be tricky.

P. S. I'll just stick to my blue jelly shrimp.

You can try here

http://www.shrimpspot.com/

It is a forum dedicated to freshwater shrimp! These guys would know for sure if anyone does. I poke around if my little shrimpies seem to have an issue.

MODS let me know if linking the other forum is an issue. It was freshwater so I didn't think so.
