No fans, and no acrylic cover

I didn't really mind that it didn't come with these features. I already have a 4 fan system that attaches top the back of the tank and plus i need to cover the top of my tank for all the wrasses that i want and i am hanging the fixture via the hanging kit, so i don't really need the acry;ic cover...:)

Just found this thread!

I bought the 8 bulb 48" fixture and did some mods on it-

added a second power cord to control the sets of bulbs independently

made an acrylic shield

made some legs

If anyone is interested, I have pictures.

Yes I want to see it.

post the pics!!
OK!

Then I took out the bulbs, reflector and endcaps.

It only had one power source, but two light switches so the first mod was to add a second power cord for independent control.

Drill a hole near the other cord-be sure to look inside:smile:

Then disconnect the black, white and green/yellow wires of one ballast from the wire nuts where they meet up. For the black, disconnect from after the switch.

Legs

Flat aluminium, you can get this a HD

When drilling into your fixture, make sure that the leg will mount between the endcaps and is far enough away from the top and
bottom of the fixture for washers and nuts to clear.

I had the aluminium around the house, but I'm now working on some adjustable legs...

Next on the list a acrylic spray shield. I had a piece of Plexiglas already,
but you can get it at HD too.

I cut some1" pieces off of a wooden dowel rod, glued a neodymium button magnet from the craft section at wally world to them and painted it all black.
I then glued them to the Plexiglas and now I can just magnet the shield to the fixture.

Legs and shield-
I wanted the shield to not cause much heat build up hence the 1" space.
