So I am very lucky to get an amazing pair of Maroons for free. They are just over 3" and 4", they have great gold bars with flakes, and they have been in a friends 220 for 3 years and laying eggs for 2 of those years. He is going on a second overseas tour and is taking it all down. Now im not that new. I currently breed bangaii, and 2 different pipefish but have never breed clownfish. I have done a great deal of reading up and am fairly confident. My questions are (1) is there any chance of them turning on each other after the move (2) they spawn in a piece of live rock covered by the largest GBT anamone I have ever seen. Should it come along with the rock or should I just set them up with a clay pot. (3) they have been spawning regularly. should I expect a large downtime or will they just resume? I have a series of 10, 80 and 60 gal. tubs all plumbed together and they will get there own. Most have 250MH but a few have 40watt led. Thanks! CC

hard to say but the nem wouldnt hurt anything... i would be afraid to stick my hand in a tank with those beasts haha.... they get really aggresive especially after laying eggs...

They were in there 220 with a couple percs, damsels, misc tangs, YH jawfish pair (wich i will be taking), and a RG pair. They would not chase anything unless it was real close to thier GBT. I have gotten BT off of rocks by hanging them above water. I just asked that question because if the GBT is attached to what they spawn of it could be an issue.

Leave them in a 10g bare bottom put tiles easier to take out on hatch night ,if you want to breed them if u wanna do both then ad sand nem n the tile ,better them the pot, ones they start laying these suckers don't move ,like someone is gonna steal their spot ,they don't need much space.

you can take them and put them in any tank if they've been breeding that long. you can use a larger pot than usual like say a 8 or 10" pot , they should resume laying within the same month if happy.. feed lots and keep water in check and they will spawn, i wouldn't worry to much about it and let nature take it's coarse,,,, i move breeding pairs all the time and they only delay 3-4 days but thats from my experience.. good luck any questions just ask OH and post some pics:smile:!!

Put the nem in the breeding tank and he does not look happy. The pair really dont like leaving it though. If it does not perk up soon I will remove him to another tank and just leave them with the pot.

I'm a little late to respond but here is what I would have told you.. heh

Find out from your friend when they are due to spawn next. Move them on that day. If the female is loaded with eggs, she'll pretty much lay them no matter what.

Now that we're past that point I'd advise you not to remove the BTA. It's probably just adjusting. Feed it some Krill. Let them have their BTA and the flower pot.

I would recommend moving the rock adjacent to the flower pot and try to get the BTA to crawl on top of the pot itself. My Onyx broodstock have a pot covered with BTA's and they love it.

As far as when they resume it's completely up to the fish. I moved 2 pairs in June and they both had resumed spawning by August.

Yea it was just adjusting. The BTA is about the size of a dinner plate and has been on this same piece of live rock for almost 3 years. Idk how I would go about trying to get him on the pot.
