Hi everyone,
So I'm focusing on making my current build sps dominant and I picked up my first 6 frags last week. As I'm running a ULNS I picked up some ME Poly Extender Aminos and some Reef Chilli to feed these guys. I know sps prefer to be fed after lights out but I'm unsure of when to dose the Aminos. Per ME they reccomend to dose about 15-20 min before lights out. A few articles I have read suggest that sps absorb Aminos during the day and feed on foods at night. So my question is for those of you that both dose Aminos and feed coral foods, what is the best time to do so?

I dose aminos anytime but feed Oyster feast after lights out. By the way after months and months of experimenting with acropower, fuel, brightwell aminos, and reef grow aminos I'm starting to buy into the "feed your fish or corals more idea" . I've seen some increase in polyp extension with aminos but I've seen the same with more food but also better color and growth with Oyster feast or just feeding the fish a ton. My 2 cents

Thanks guys. @Seth401 ive tried feeding more but the only effect I get with that is increased phosphates. I run gfo and my phosphates stay about .02, if I increase feeding it bumps them up to .08. Nitrates consistently test 0 or undetectable.

Give the aminos a shot. Do you see any negative response in your sps when phosphates rise to 08? I know every tank is different but my sps seem to have better color and growth when my phosphates are over 05. Everytime I run Gfo and drop them to 0 or 02 they get pale. Even when I drop it slow and use aminos. Another thing worth noting. I've recently had a small battle with cyano. Heavy feeding doesn't seem to make it worse. Acropower and other aminos seem to feed it like crazy! Not saying they will give you cyano but I've definitely noticed that when I dose acropower the cyano grows quicker on that particular day. I stopped all aminos a few weeks ago, feeding a lot instead and cyano is backing off(strange haha).

No real negative effects were noticed but I only allowed them to stay that high for a few days then they slowly dropped back to .02 after about 2 weeks. I've started using ME Aminos last week and notice huge difference in pe and slightly darker coloration. I got some coral foods coming this week that I will try and spot feed every couple days and see how they react. I haven't had any cyano or other algae issues yet using them aminos
