Ammonia and cloudiness in new tank

So, yesterday i started my very first reef tank. i've added a dead shrimp to begin the cycle and today my tank's quite cloudy. is it a bacteria bloom? and also when should i start testing for ammonia? thanks in advance

Good morning and welcome to the hobby and to R2R.

First the cloudiness is normal if you are using a piece of shrimp. Make sure you do not leave it in there the whole time. Maybe look into some like Dr. Tim’s one and only.

The cycle will take a few weeks. At this point test it once a week and then in a few weeks test it every day until ammonia reads “0”.

Since you are new I will give you the best advice I can. The most expensive part of this hobby is impatience.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll try and find the Dr.Tims bacteria but it's pretty rare and expensive here in indonesia

You do not need it. You can cycle the way you are doing it now it just takes a bit longer. No matter what be patient and enjoy the process.
