Ammonia in QT even after water change

I did a 50% water change last night and the ammonia didn’t budge. I’m dosing prime for now, but how can I lower the ammonia?

I did a 50% water change last night and the ammonia didn’t budge. I’m dosing prime for now, but how can I lower the ammonia?

1. Since the badge only reads in relatively larger increments - its impossible with your eyes to tell how much ammonia was decreased.
2. Unless you have a significant amount of ammonia being produced (from where? and there is no ammonia in your make up water), that if you do a 50% water change, your ammonia will go from lets say .05 to .025. To me the badge is reading just over .02 or somewhere between .02 and .05.

Are there fish in the tank? If not - why are you dosing prime?

That makes sense. I have 4 tangs in the tank. The color did drop from yesterday. I didn’t know that the badge could read in between increments.
