So what are you cycling?

I added nitrifying bacteria as there was ammonia in the water. I saw online that the ammonia level should be zero before I add livestock

You have to add a nitrogen source to cycle a tank, rather that's food or pure ammonia. Ideally, you want to raise ammonia in the tank a ppm or two and then let the bacteria drop it to zero, indicating a completed cycle.

its good for very loose observation of params, not very accurate.

I think you should concentrate on basics, like learning about the nitrogen cycle and how to be successful in keeping marine fish and corals.

More sophisticated tools aren’t needed at the moment. The learning process matters.
