Ammonia test conflict

Hey all. Currently cycling a fluval evo. I’ve been using the Fluval ammonia test kit. Today I decided to try the API ammonia test as the Fluval kit was giving a color I couldn’t match.

fluval ammonia - maybe between 0.6 and 1.2?

API ammonia test - I’d say close to 0?

do I need to get a 3rd kit to verify?

If you have a LFS nearby, you could take them a water sample and ask them to test it. They should do it for free or a small fee.

that trash api test had me sitting cycled for 2 weeks. it was that color and 0 ppm the whole time. yours probably is too.

The API ammonia test is notorious for being really bad. Like already said it often reads as having ammonia when it is actually 0.

I use Red Sea test kit for ammonia... easy to read.

Try the Red Sea or Salifert kits
Too many LFS push API yet the kit is junk
