I’ve never used the Hanna tester, but the API ammonia test has been reported to give poor results. I use the Hach ammonia test myself.

I picked up a different ammonia test kit that also tested zero. I think the Hannah is no good.

Which one? I haven't tried them in anything other than freshwater.

Is that not the marine version? They have some freshwater versions that use the Nessler method which is pretty useless.

I use the Hach salicylate ammonia test on a spectrophotometer. I think they also have a visual test as well. Aquarium Systems used to have a visual test that was really good, but its off the market now.
