I saw these big suckers at lights out before work (4 a.m.) I briefly turned on the lights and the sand is riddled with them. I'm assuming its a Amphipod or something of that nature. If its a amphipod, what kind of fish do I need to buy to keep them at bay. I have a few wrasses, but none of them are night owls. I figure if its a amphipod, is my established copepod population at risk of being wiped out?

In my very unprofessional opinion, that looks like an amphipod to me.

Thanks for the response, im leaning towards the same thing as well. I can only assume they hitchhiked in on some coral. I've never seeded amphipods only tisbe copepods.
Yeah, who knows where they come in from. I assume by your comment you did dry rock. If you did live rock, they frequently come in on that.

Do you dip your corals before putting them in the tank? Personally, I’m not quite anal enough to set up an entire separate QT tank, but I have started dipping my corals in CoralRX. Temp acclimate, drip acclimate if you do that, then let them sit in a bowl of tank water mixed with the dip for 5 minutes, shake, rinse in another bowl of clean tank water, and put in your display as you normally would. Below is a pic from me dipping just 3 tiny frags. Bristleworm plus tons of little larval looking things with long antennae?

When I started my current tank, I used some rock from my 50g, but mainly dry rock. The rock from the 50g was seeded from some old fiji rock in my dads tank along with some live rock from the LFS I deal with.

Its crazy to finally see them now, that's why I assume its from a recent coral purchase. As dipping coral, apparently I need to get on it. So far I've dodged a bullet, but that may change lol.

I just consider it pretty cheap insurance. There are hardly any corals that I’ve paid less than the cost of a bottle.
