Hey there @minnowme! Welcome aboard!

We don't carry amphipods, but we do sell Tigriopus californicus "Tigger-Pods" and Apocyclops panamensis "Apex-Pods". Here is our store locator: https://reefnutrition.com/store-locator/. Always call the store first to confirm that they have our products in stock. You can also buy direct from us if you don't have a store nearby. We specialize in copepods, rotifers and phytoplankton, but amphipods are definitely on our list of animals we would like to work with in the future.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Best,
Chad

Very cool Chad. I was on the website yesterday; ready to order pods. I saw the tigger pod tornado. That was very attractive I must say. What does shipping look like if I were to order from the reef nutrition website directly? The small amphipod population I have are surely reproducing. I'm seeing new Amphipods of all sizes. I would love to start my own Tigger/Tisbe/Parv population to culture. Indeed amusing. Looks just like plankton from spongebob.

Will your tigger pods reproduce in a reef tank sump? I always see them in refrigerated cases so is reef tank too warm for them?

You can always put in an order to see what shipping will look like and decide if you want to proceed. :)

@Philt56,

Refrigeration is simply meant to slow them down metabolically. The colder water also has the added benefit of retaining more oxygen, which is important since we pack the bottle with nearly 3,000 of them in only 160mls of saltwater. Since they are very hardy, we use this to our advantage. They can be shipped long distance, passed through the chain of custody (us ---> distributor ---> LFS ---> consumer) and still remain reproductively viable when held in colder temperatures. With the cap popped open, they will live for weeks in a bottle at refrigeration temperatures. We grow this animal in greenhouses with no climate control near San Jose, CA. In the hotter months, our tanks can reach the low to mid 80's with no negative effects on reproduction and growth.

Whether a copepod will reproduce in a reef tank or refugium is a whole other matter. :)

Royal reefs is having a deal on amphipods right now to where if you buy a 1000 you get a 1000 free and it's a really good deal

Royal Reefs is legit. I bought a bag of 300 amphipods last week and was planning to pick them up myself since they are local. I got a text from them and they offered to drop them off at my house at no charge so I said sure. They brought a bag of 1000 amphipods and said there was no extra charge because they just started a sale. The bag was so full of amphipods that that we’re stacked on top of each other and you couldn’t hardly see the bottom of the bag. Great service and great price!

Gonna check these guys out. Amphipods and iso pods are the best imo. The fish pick em off, coral, nems and the eat your algae and excess food. Bugs are so underrated in this hobby. Since taking my colony seriously, my maintenance is way down
