Amphipods Eating My Zoanthids

I had that problem awhile back, got a yellow wrasse and he took care of it. I recently got rid of him since I have an open top tank and he kept splashing water out and noticed a week or two later, the amphipods came back in numbers. I ordered a mandarin but if the mandarin doesn't do the job I will most likely get the wrasse again.

Amphipods are to big for the mandarin, it will need to be a wrasse I believe.

+1 on the melanurus. Mine eats amphipods, copepods, bristleworms and even mini brittle stars. I can move things around in my tank and she follows me, eating all the critters underneath. A great little hunter! Just make sure you have a TIGHT cover on your tank.

luckily its not these amphipods that I have my tank I think I would sht bricks haha

:bolt:that is one heck of a pod!

Get a couple of wrasses they will take care of the problem with in a couple of days. Suggestions on wrasses from my experience:

1. Melanurus Wrasse
2. Yellow Coris
3. Leopard wrasses
4. Six line

I have had all of the above. I would definitely say the Melanurus is a top pick but they get big and I am unable to have one in my current system. At the moment I have a six line, sm potters and a yellow coris. The six line is ok but the potters and yellow coris are avid hunters and they keep the tank clean of unwanted pests. They will even grab bristle worms when they can see them.

I have a Hoeven's wrasse that ate most of ten peppermint shrimp last night. I added them and within minutes I saw him eat two back to back and then this morning there is not one sign of a peppermint in the tank. Didn't matter that his mouth wasn't really big enough to eat them. He just got one end in his mouth and then repeatedly bumped his mouth/the protruding shrimp on the glass or the overflow column until he pushed the shrimp down his throat. I was on the phone but now I wish I had just told the person "Hey gotta go so I can record this fish - sorry your Mom died, but I got priorities here." I bet he would eat your offending amphipods. If I could catch him I would ship him to you :mad2:

LOL so I goggled melanurus and it is the same as a Hoeven's. Makes sense why people recommended that one!

The only thing I'm afraid of adding one is it would eat my CC, such as my shrimps, my sea cucumbers, hermits, snails, and various starfishs :/
