Amphipods Eating Palys/Zoas

I had the same issue with amphipods eating my zoas, and most reefers said amphipods don't eat zoas. Had a healthy colony of zoas that was opened up, and the next day half weren't closed and had tissue lost. There are different types of amphipods, and I notice it was the bigger amphipods that were eating my zoas. Amphipods about the size of 1/8" and larger that were problematic in my tank. I had to nuke my tank and start over to rid of them. Currently I still have amphipods in my tank, but looks to be the smaller variety. Haven't had any issues with the smaller ones.

Add a few halichoeres wrasses and they should decimate the population.
All they will do is pick all day
And they don't care about size
They went after a 2 inch long skunk cleaner in my tank!
Natural predators usually do the best job!
Good luck!

Wrasse works, but only during the day. Would need a fish that also hunts at night.

Why dont you just toss some food in there at night for them? That most deffinitly will keep them off the zoas
Tried that and the population of amphipods exploded.

Oh get that red Bubble OUT. Carefully.

I did, i tore out the entire section of chaeto it was attached to and tossed it, havent seen any since thankfully!

Because you have a mandarin Interceptor is not a viable choice

I wasn't considering it, just an option I found that I figured I would share. This wouldn't bode well for my mandarin!

Honestly, I'm afraid that if I keep feeding them, i'll have to continue to do so and they'll just keep spreading. I'd rather introduce a natural predator to keep them at bay. Plus it would save me $ on food.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm getting that leopard wrasse I mentioned later today. I also already added a coral banded shrimp. I should have taken progression shots of the Sunny D Palys, they're absolutely wrecking that colony.

hey what ended up happening with this? just googled my issue and its the same as yours. was considering picking up a 6 line or yellow coris wrasse

Well, Been there and done that as they say. I got a six line wrasse( named her PC for pest control). That's what worked for me, best $20.00 I ever spent at of all places Petco.
