Amphipods living in coral skeleton?

I'm reading this while thinking "aren't pods good?" and now I feel like I missed something...

Large amphipods are generally free fish food and free cleanup crew but stories of them eating corals aren't unheard of, which was to some extent my concern here (threads debating whether they ever eat healthy tissue or just dying corals go on for pages).

I've seen them scurry over every surface in my tank at night but had never seen them living in a coral like this, only popping out like a jack-in-the-box to grab something drifting by. With who knows how many species of amphipods existing I just wanted to make sure these weren't some unusual variety (and confirm that they were amphipods at all). The idea of some sort of coral boring critter did not sit well but sounds like it's more likely they are just regular amphipods and are just taking advantage of existing hiding spots and should pose no threat to the coral in this case.

I'll have my eye on them in any case!
