Hello,

I am stocking a 180 FOWLR slowly but surely. I personally like the look with little rock. However, I am finding that this means there is not enough hiding/sleeping places for all the fish. I feel like this then leads to more aggression between tangs and angels. People with lots of tangs, do you have a sleeping cave for each of them? I bought a lot of rock so cover the bottom makikng making areas for hiding but I miss the open sand scape. Any thoughts on this?

I was just reading about tang aggression this morning. They can be very territorial ours in our 100g protects his space from our Valentini puffer by giving a little tail swipe. I've been reluctant to add any other big fish to the tank because of his pushiness. We have a pretty minimalistic aquascape with very few hiding spots, though we've been considering adding more rock for the safety of the fish. Added some pictures to give you an idea of what we're working with.

Here's the article about tang aggression if you're interested

I made sure all of my fish have a place to sleep. I have a 180 gal (standard 6 ft) DT with 2 tangs, 2 angels, a magnificent fox, and about 15 or so other assorted less agressive fish. I have a fair amount of chasing but no nipping or damage. I think giving them all a safe place to "escape" is incredibly important.

Agreed, thanks for the comment. I’m going to keep all the rock in then.

I think you are right with this.

The caves and arches can break up lines of sight, but for the most part those are for aesthetic reasons for us. Multiple tangs need piles of rock that they can hide/sleep and also to escape to avoid being beat on by another tang.

Perfect thanks! I will just have to make a lot of hiding spots!
