One of my buddies posted this pic today on Facebook and said that this was his lunch.... I informed him of how much the Regal alone is worth... He said it tasted like chicken lol.. He's somewhere in Indonesia right now, said these were from Wanaban Island

Thats dumb...I would throw them back

How is this dumb? These fish have been a source of food way before we started keeping them as pets. They still eat yellow tangs in Hawaii.

out of respect for the local people it is dumb...fishing to survive is one thing, fishing for a cool lunch is disrespectful to those who need them for a living/feeding a family

I should clarify, my buddy is seeing a lady from Indonesia and they were with her family and friends. Not that it makes it any better, but I think if I were there and had the opportunity I'd probably try some things that I wouldn't normally eat, like tridacnid clams for instance.

Seriously guy...or are you just playin'? :nerd:

Thanks for sharing Chris....that boat is a legit antique! Imagine how many fishing trips that thing has seen...

Great catch!! I went back to visit vietnam back in 2010, I had an opportunity to go fishing with the fishermen. We caught huge cow fish, tangs, fox face, angels, huge astrea snails, maxima clams, and urchins. My favorite of all is the cowfish, theres only 4 straps of meat, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. The meat is pure white and it is super yummy, doesnt smell or taste fishy at all.

If I had to eat them I wouldn't be able to get over the feeling of eating what seems like a pet..

Its lunch for us in the Maldives as well. We have enough fish for in our ocean. :xd:

cool pic! thanks for sharing.

there is nothing wrong with eating fish from the ocean. just because some people keep them in an aquarium for display doesn't mean they are off limits to eat. as long as they are harvested responsibly, then it's all good.

on the other hand, i saw unhealthy harvesting when i went to honduras. i friend has lived there for 10 yrs in a coastal village. he stated that the fish population was quite abundant when he arrived. technology and methods improved with time. the locals were harvesting more then needed for personal food to try and make extra money. they were even harvesting juvi fish without limits. now the numbers of fish are seriously down and in trouble.

I have a friend from high school who is Chinese, and makes trips back to his homeland to visit family. He normally posts pictures of extravagant meals and such, and one caught my eye in particular; an entire spread of 40+ mantis shrimp, all deep fried up and ready to munch on. I don't know the breed that they were, but when your average and common breed mantis shrimp costs in the ballpark of 20 bucks or so, that would make for one hefty bill of sale to the right people.
