I don’t know why I can’t let this go but here i am again. Over 10 years ago I tore down my reef tank that i had up and running for 16 years. It made it through two moves. At a time when life was happening, 3 children in sports, my daughter in travel softball, i got an invasion in my tank. In the picture the are the yellow/ green polyp thingys. The more I pulled out handfuls the faster they grew and spread chocking out the light and the room for my corals. The tank looked awful. So as any good reefer would do I set out to identify this plague in order to find out a fish or invert would find it delicious. My local lfs did not have a clue. I reached out to the marine biologist at That Fish Place ( I think), one of the girls on my daughters softball team brother was dating a marine biologist and he forwarded it to her. A close friend has a large tank in his dental office and home that he has serviced and maintained, he assured me this guy would know. To make a short story even longer no ID was made and down the tank went. Perhaps with all the information out there someone can put this to bed. Thanks.

Neomeris sp. This is a rare calcified green macroalgae that usually dies out in captivity. However, it has a rare chance to go invasive. Since it is calcified, I would assume few organisms could consume it besides urchins.

Wow, thank you so much Wheat toast! The availability of info now is unbelievable. Kinda sad to know now that I could have plopped in some urchins instead of tearing it down. Live and learn!
