I have reduced the temperature to 75, is there a chance he is just hiding from the higher temperature and will come back out soon? Is it common for a wrasse to hide if temps get too warm?

Mine lives fine in 79/80 so doubt the temp is an issue to worry about.

The tank with my Lennardi is between 74-75 degrees. I've had mine for 14 months.

Very nice to know, I am thinking it is the temp. It was doing great when it was 77 and when it got to 80 is when it went into the sand hiding

Very well could be. Lennardi's are a sensitive fish which most people cannot seem to keep alive past 3-6 months. I've maintained the 74-75 degree temp the entire time I've had mine. So not sure if temp truly would play a role in behavior. As for life expectancy I would suspect higher than recommended temps would decrease the fishes lifespan. Similar to Blue Spot Jawfish and Catalina gobies to name a few.
