They say all good things must come to an end- and yes, despite our best efforts to prolong the inevitable...we need to bring some closure here and announce some winners!
Let's just cut to the chase here!
FIRST PLACE: When it comes to cool corals, the Psammocora are not one that immediately comes to mind off many people...and let's face it- this one kinda shows us all why! Congrats to LukeV and his incredible effort at bringing out the ahem, "beauty" in this beast... An incredible "Branching Green Psammocora" (okay, let's tell it like it is- it's beige at best...). A true role model for, umm..ugliness. And our judging team was particularly touched by the equally "attractive" RBTA in the photo..Talk about a perfect foil! Congrats...you're scoring a $125 Unique Corals "virtual gift card!"
SECOND PLACE: Look, everyone who knows me personally knows my aesthetic leans towards "earth tones", but I like a colorful coral as much as the next guy...So imagine my thrill when Donna, the lovely voice you talk to on the other end of the phone about your orders, broke out in laughter when contemplating the beauty of this "Green Plating Leptoseris!" It was one of those moments when you knew she'd felt she had the winner pegged...Discussion and some back and forth among the team ensued...and when sanity prevailed, Mirya's stunning "Green (um, beige) Plating Leptoseris" took home the..uh, silver, and a $75 Unique Corals "virtual gift card!"
DISHONORABLE MENTION #1): When lightning strikes twice, it's time to head for the hills...And it HAPPENED! When Marquiseo entered his three inspiring corals into the contest, along with their charming stories, we knew we were in for something good...and we were correct! He moves into lofty real estate, being the only individual ever to place in more than one contest...the winningest um, "loser" in contest history! And in addition to invading our hearts and minds, he scores a $50 Unique Corals "Virtual Gift Card!"
DISHORNORABLE MENTION #2): How can you stop rewarding real beauty? You can't, which is why we had an unprecedented second DM!! dwebb took the coral that is (let's face it), generally pretty ugly- Acroipora efflorescens- and took it to a whole new level and made it SUPER ugly!
We'll be sure to PM all the "winners" and get you email information so we can send you your prizes!
Great work by everyone...Remember- when you see that sad, forlorn "brown" coral in the corner of your reef- don't shun it. DOn't run from it...Think about the potential glory that it can reap...when it becomes Golden!
May all your Sinularia be slimy, and may all of your Acros be brown.
