I have a long tentical anemone, we got him a week ago. He has yet to set his foot some place. He has pooped at leat twice that I know of. Every now and then he ball up almost into nothing... about an hour or two later hes all puffy and fine. His color is fine but im concerned that it looks like his mouth is open. The salinity in the tank is 1.025 the nitrate is 0 nitrite 0 alkalinity 188 ph 8.4 I have been testing the water daily to make sure everything is right. the lighting consists of 4 t5 that are 55 watts each 2 blue 1 purple and 1 white. Any idea as to whats going on?

I believe he is just adjusting. Our anemone did the same thing for a couple months. Then he found a spot in our tank he liked and settled in.

What fixture do you have? Does it have individual reflectors?
How deep is your sandbed?
How long has your tank been set up?
How are you measuring your salinity/SG?

A fully healthy M. doreensis should have buried its foot on its own. You can try to dig a depression in the sandbed and place it in there.

Did you notice any damage to the underside of the foot? Even a pin head sized mark at the center can be an issue.

They aren't fans of a lot of flow.

+1 on the flow, mine hated the water movement and would be in constant hiding, I took out one of the power heads and he came out, unfortunately I lost him in a power outage last year

Yeah must be 45s Its got 3 1/2 to 4 inches of fine sand, moderate flow, I've tried feeding him but he's not interested.

Something I did was I placed 4-5 inches of sand in a container and placed it high in the tank, I then placed him in and could easily monitor him

I lucked out and mine found a place to call home on day one. But he was doing just as you reported and was closing up daily for hours at a time for the past two weeks. My ph was on the low side about 7.8 or 8.0. I buffered it up yesterday and he's been open and happy ever since. That doesn't seem to be your problem, so I'm just starting anecdotally that they can be very sensitive.

Just an up date... he has found his place and has attatched himself inbetween the glass and the rocks ( facing the back of the tank of chorse.... >_< )I think he over ate when we got him we had 4 blue/ green chromis and with in 2 days we were down to two. I looked all over the tank in the sump and ever nook and crany I could and there were no little fishy corpses to be found. There is nothing else in our tank that could eat them. I was tild if they over eat there mouths will be open for a while. So I wated a while before feeding him. I just fed him sunday, two small peices of krill and he ate them both. The clowns I have havent made any attempt to host in them which is rather disappointing. But oh well as long as everyone's happy and healthy!

If I were you I'd add a bubble tip, I've never had luck with clowns other than maroons hosting lta.

Something is still off --- it should be in/on the sandbed. When an M. doreensis is on the rocks, something isn't right.

As far as hosting, I have had the following clowns hosted by an M. doreensis

Pink skunk (( A. perideraion ))

Orange skunk (( A. sandaracinos ))

A. ocellaris

A. percula

A. clarkii

+1 for sand bed. Try to dig him a depression in the sand and make sure it's minimum flow while he's trying to grasp on.

Yup he did move again. This time to the other side of the tank then back behind the rocks directly infront of a power head! :what: So I moved him out placed him where he had been before squeezing be hind the rocks... and placed another rock up top to close the gap so he can't squeeze back infront of the power head again. And he's been there for 2 days and hasn't made another attempt to move. His mouth is closed color good and eats great! Usually when I feed him he's like "I suppose ill eat that." hes in no real hurry about it, but this moring he took it fast. My new golby likes to hang out pretty close to him... not so happy about that situation, but oh well. If he gets ate ill just have to remibd myself its natural selection. Lol

The second pic is of his mouth the color looks washed because I was playing around with an effect on my new phone that only highlights greens.
