I am dosing 2 part reef fusion 1 & 2. Each time I do, my h.malu anemone. Ducks under the reef rock and sand, completely withdrawing and disappearing for a half day to full day. I am following direction for dosing and put the specified amount in two high flow areas of the tank waiting several minutes in between doses. I do not have a dose so dosing by hand.

My question: Is this normal? Is there another way to dose by hand so as not to upset it. Should I dose in the sump? Any help is appreciated!

Well I know I and many others do dose to sump, I just prefer it to dillute some before it hits display, but my guess is your Malu could even be sensitive to you and hand vibrations or shadows will even make them pull in.
Malu's are kind of sensitive in this way.

Thanks for the reply Dave! I had not dosed in the sump because it recommend a high flow area and my sump return chamber is not high flow. I have a thick clear film on the surface and not sure how to dose there. Not sure how to get rid of the film either.

Post some pics and list gear, but FWIW my sump return is low, I'm at 5x turnover and w/ head pressure probably really less, but I dose alk in that chamber, wait for cloud to fade some, and I dose CA in return/skimmer section so it takes a few minutes more to travel, and even that is probably an extra step I don't really need to do.

As for your Malu, all of my Malu's and LTA's were very sensitive to any intrusion, even a snail shell, hand shadow would make them pull in.
I once had an LTA pull into sand bed and completely disappear just from a hand shadow, and it was out of site for nearly a week, I thought it just melted away, but it came back out big and bold as ever.
Nothing at all like my big crispa, that thing was like the cat that you can lift it's fur and vacuum under and never flinch!
It's funny how they can all be so different.
