I have a couple BTA in a tank I bought a couple months back. Initially they didn’t have much color and one split the day I moved the setup from the previous owners to my house. They are starting to color up pretty good with pink tips and a green base with pink spots on the tentacles. The other the smallest one 1.5” split again and where it split the tentacles have orange tips. Is this normal for the tentacles to change to orange when splitting? I will see if I can get pictures when the lights are at peak.

Thanks

Seth

Perhaps your lighting is different from the previous owner and thus enhanced their colors. Also, as anemone deflated the color is brighter as apposed to being fully inflated. I have not personally see the anemone split in action, so IDK if they changes color when splitting.

It is quite common for BTA's to "Color Morph" or "phase" as its called in the higher end anemones. No one really knows why, but typically its attributed to the type of lighting. LED's often bring out different coloration in the anemone than say halids or t5's would and vice versa. I had one strain that had 3-4 different phases over the course of my ownership. Bright pink under Powercompact, Deep pink with striations under t5, Red/green under t5/led hybrid and pink, green and orange tips under straight LED

Continuing, It is not required that they split before a phase shift happens, just usually much more apparent as you have multiple to compare against eachother :)

color changes are fun!!!

I can’t get a good picture but you can see some orange on the smaller one. The larger one is how it would normally look.
