Welll its a sad day today for me. My LTA died via powerhead. After all my efforts to block it and protect it from the powerhead it still got in there somehow and got chopped up. Wasnt easy getting it out. it was all smelly and gross. I wont be getting another one for a while. I had put a box over the power head and it still managed to squeeze its way in there through the smallest freaking crack ever. not sure how long he was lodged in there but he was definetly dead. my kids are sad too.

Sorry that happened :(

If you have other animals in the tank running carbon would be a good idea to get all the toxins out.

There are nem guards for most power heads and I have used nylons stockings to cover ours before.

Sucks for the kiddos also :(

Good luck with the next nem!!

I'm sorry for your loss. I never had that happen before. They usually will take a foot hold somewhere within the first 24 hours.

If you get one again I suggest turning off your power heads for a day so they can take hold somewhere. Also try and place it in a spot that you think he will like, then feed him so he thinks that spot is where food is. I had the most success this way. They usually stay where the food is.

It all depends on how the water is.

Has your ammonia spiked?

Carbon can deplet within a few hours depending on how bad the water was.

I wouldn't over use the carbon but definitely switch it out daily until your water clears up.
