So i have a choice between a rainbow anemone and a black widow anemone. I want to know what are the pros and cons of both and what might be a better decision. Here are pictures of both.

This is the black widow

Both stunning nems wow either would be a welcome addition price would be my only pro or con

Both are BTA, other than color they are the same anemone

Pretty much this. And colors change with lighting and in time.
Although you are right about them both being bubble tip anemones, lighting and time can only change so much. You cant take a rainbow and blast it with light and have it magically turn to the same colors as a black widow.

I'm not talking about blasing anything - just stating what I've personally seen over the years along with keeping them of my own. Personally speaking I think they are pests almost has bad as Xenia (both of which I keep mind you). I started with a single RBTA and now have eleven over the course 9 years I'd say. 1st started in a 29 gallon biocube. It split, then two became too much so picked up another cube and moved it. It split again back to two in one tank, single in other. Upgrade and combined into a 40 breeder and over the next couple of years those turned into six or seven. Upgraded to my 210 gallon and now I'm at 11. I've lost one or two along the way due to some unknown reason but seem to be holding steady at 11. Not a single one look the same. All are RBTA for sure but depending on their location in the tank, of their choice, lighting, shade, long tenticles or bubbles due to flow some have green swirls, others cream, and some none. Some are light in red, some dark.

That is why there is a disclaimer on corals with regards to color at source of purchase to your tank.

Edit for clarity: I'm not saying don't buy it. Just consider shopping around because a RBTA do vary in color and are pretty cheap all things considered. You may save a couple bucks is all I'm saying.

There is a significant difference between both of these nems. The black widow or sherman is a lot brighter in color with no green color to it.

My point is they will react the same both being BTA, so pick the color you like

I don't see where this comment says you can change one into the other, just that they typically will change color from different lighting and conditions over time

Not sure what you mean by pros and cons as they are the same species just different color/type. Personally though I like the black widow ones. Around me they are rarer than rainbow.

Looking af them it almost seems like the black isn’t and is a color variant of a quad with swollen tents.

These 2 are the same just different locations flow and lighting.
