I was thinking about getting an bubble tip anemone to try and host a pair of clowns. Besides stinging corals, are there any other downside to having one?

Mine stings nothing- more hit and miss. They do split regularly and become a few of them in months

i have one for over 10 years now. I dont remember the last time it move. Just make sure there are no corals surrounding. Cant say the same for my GBT too many splits and they move all around. I have to get rid of them

cover every moving pump in the tank...powerhead,wavemaker etc..It will happen ( puree'd anemone) if you don't !!

Some seldom split and get really big. Others split frequently and can multiply fast.

do any fish prey on them or if they die will
They crash the tank?
There is a few butterflyfish that strictly eat anemones .
Some others that are reluctant to eat , it’s said to add a anemone and they will pick at it .
But not sure what type of anemone .

if they die they can “nuke “ your tank .
this is where a general suggestion to wait 1 year tank maturity before adding one .
Stability is key

The nuking your tank fear is vastly overstated.

As mentioned they can crash a tank. I have experienced both a nem that literally seemed to melt overnight to the unavoidable "egg drop soup", when the nem checks out the gyre. In my experience if the nem gets chopped up its not nearly as bad as when one melts down. There are plenty of warning signs before that happens usually. They do move around and they can sting things but I haven't noticed that as being so much a problem as them simply deciding to move to a piece of prime real-estate that you wanted to put some coral on.

Most people assume you keep your heater in the sump. If you don’t, make sure to cover it somehow. Your nem can get burned pretty bad on it.
