I bought my first anenome yesterday and I am so excited. When I bought it the mouth was not gaping and the foot looked healthy. I got home and acclimated it and it is now in my tank. I did some research and now I am hearing there is no such thing as a white anenome? Did my fish store literally screw me and sell me a bleached anenome? It looks like a bubble or bulb anenome. It's such a beautiful piece and it looks healthy. Please help. I will send it right back to them if they did that to me. Thanks !

He looks healthy it's just his color I'm worried about. I heard there's no such thing as a white anenome but then why would my LFS sell that to me.

True but I'm friends with all of them and give them good business. It's foot is healthy and its extended and its mouth is normal and tight. I just heard so many people say there's no such thing as a white nem. I will give it right back if it's bleached. It looks like a bubble tip too

That will happen to "mass produced" nems. It comes from wrong or no light during propagation and or storage. Pet stores like Petco are notorious for selling these very unhappy nems. In time it may bounce back.

It seems healthy tho. How do I color it back up? And what color will it become so I can watch it

just let it be. once a week feed it something meaty to keep it happy. itll come back. and who knows could be a really nice one.

I have the aqua illumination hydras. It seems to be happy right now all except the color. What is the best food to feed it ? I been squirting Mysis shrimp to it. Is there anything better?

It should be good under the leds, you can also feed it small pieces of raw shrimp. Just give it some time and keep an eye on it, its hard on nems with removal and transport

I believe you have a ritteri anemone ( heteractis magnifica). They can have a redish or purple foot depending where collected. They are a more difficult anemone to keep alive by most and suggested for experts only by many. Best food for it in my opinion is small pieces of raw shrimp. You need to dose iodine too. The raw shrimp also contains iodine.
Tell whomever told you there are no white anemones to look up heteractis crispa which is commonly called a sebae anemone. Look up the color varients & white is one of them. How about condylactis gigantea. It definately has a lot of white.

Thank you for that great response. I really don't know what it is. That stinks if it's the hardest anenome to take care of. My LFS told me it wasn't that hard. Two questions. So I go to the food store and get raw shrimp and cut them into chunks and feed it to the nem? And do you think if will turn a color if I take care of it and feed it? I'm nervous it's a bleached anemone

It's really throwing me off because it has bulbed tips. You can't see in the pic but a lot of the tentacles are bulbed that's why I think it's bleached cuz there's no white bulb anemones am I correct? Can I be a rose bulb Anem that is bleached ?

I think blue lip is onto something with the sebae. I've been propagating rbtas for the last 2 years and I can almost guarantee you thats not an rbta and definitely resembles a sebae to me. I've never cared for a sebae but anemones in general love light, it looks like its pretty happy where it is now, especially if it hasnt moved around. definitely feed it 2-3 times a week to get it to perk up and hopefully in due time it might color up a little. Feed Mysis and krill or chopped up shrimp. You can also cut up silversides but be sure to debone and gut them. Make sure your tank is less than 82 for best results. They will live in higher temperatures but if you want it to thrive, they need 82 or cooler. I personally keep my propagation system between 80-81. Good luck, if you have any more questions or concerns feel free to ask.

Definitely looks to be a sebae anemone. These nem's do have a white species with either blue or purple tips which is most common. If your LFS sold this to you as a RBTA I'd ask again what nem they sold you just to make sure it wasn't a mistaken ID. Looks like it will be a white sebae with dark blue/purple tips. Like bob3655 and blue lip said before just cut up raw/defrosted shrimp and feed it 2-3 times a week depending on its appetite. It's there's no signs of stress or probable cause for concern of it dying id say just leave it there, feed it and see what it does in a week or two. Good luck :)

It is a ritteri anemone. Go to live aquaria and read the description. It is one of my favorite & clownfish love them. Cut up pieces of raw shrimp to feed. Most tanks have a constant flow. Ritteri like a back & forth sway with the current. They can get very large in the wild.
