Hello,

we have a RBTA that is extremely shriveled up it looks like a chewed up piece of gum…what can we do to try and save it? Hard to get pics but it is directly in front of the gsp. We use AI prime lights.

We need to know:
How long have you had it?
Has it always looked like that?
Where did you get it?
What was the Salinity, Ph and Alk of the tank it came from? (same as yours) or?

Someone was quicker than me ^

Had tank since December, nutri-seawater for water changes, it has been beautifully bubble tipped, came from very reputable aquatic store, not sure on their parameters, checked phosphate and calcium last night -all good. We have ai power heads. Ph 1.026, kh has been low ~80 (but improving)

Power heads are AI Nero 3 and Nero 5 the 3 is only at 50% and the 5 is only at 30% power. We have ai prime 16HD lights and we use a schedule directly from the ai site

Need some more info to give you a proper response. How old is the system? What are your parameters? How long have you had the nem in the system?

From the sound of it, seems that your tank is still very young. Anemones usually do best in an established system since they don’t handle changes too well and I would say that’s usually around the 8+ month mark. I know you say parameters are all good but sometimes is best to give us the numbers so we can discard certain things out. Anemones need: a well oxygenated tank, salinity at 1.024 to 1.026, a stable pH between 8.1 and 8.3, temp between 76 and 78 F, calcium between 400 and 450, dKH at 8.0 to 12.0, magnesium between 1,250 and 1,350 ppm and I know everyone has their own experiences but for me personally I’ve seen the best growth and aesthetic with “dirtier” water and strong lighting, hope this helps. Mine thrive on my bigger systems and they split about every other week.

Plus 1 on the dirty tank and strong light

How long have you had it? It may take a few days to find a spot it likes and get adjusted.

When I got mine, I put it on a rock where I wanted it. It was like, nah and fell off into the sandbed, pretty shriveled. It then proceeded to walk all the way around the edge of about half the tank before getting back on the rock(29g, only 1 rock base), walked across the rock and eventually ended up basically where I originally placed it. Then it opened up.

I think the entire process was about 3 days. 2 years later and the original hasn't moved from that spot, but it has split off multiple times. Open mouth, or when it let's go with it's foot is when you have a big issue.

I do not know about the dirty water part, but I will say that I do not test my anemone tank ever as the anemones, 2 clownfish and some pulsating xenia are the only thing in it. I rarely do water changes, like 2 or 3 times a year total. I just let the algae grow in the tank, and pull that stuff out about once a month. So my guess is that my water is probably pretty dirty. They seem to dislike the water changes honestly, I assume because 10 gallons is a good bit of change on 29 gallons. But they get over it quickly since they are established and happy otherwise.

These two pictures were taken today (first one was tonight and second was this morning). RBTA is moving away from the GSP but still looks worrisome to me. I’ve done 2 days of target feeding (as advised by the shop where RBTA was purchased). See updated specs below/ please let me know any other advice you may have!!

Temp 77-78
Salinity 1.025
Calcium ~400
Phosphate .01
Ph 8.1
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 3ppm
Gh 180
Kh 180
(We are trying to increase nitrate levels)

Hi there we’ve had it for months and it was being hosted at one point by clownfish even! Hoping it pulls thru. I would love to see it bubble up and be happy!

10 gallons is kinda a lot try to lower it to maybe 7 gal every other week and see what happens also feed him every day
