Anemone Inflate/Deflate. Getting concerned

Just thought about this.

with it being such a small nem, just do 5 gallons for treatment. This would allow you to do 100% water changes every day. Just dose 125mg. Half of a half for a 500mg pill or half of a 250 mg pill.

I was thinking I could use a bucket instead of a 20g high tank

I bought a bunch of cheap 5g gas cans for these kinds of occasions. Emergency water transportation.

Not sure if were looking at a nem infected or onw unhappy due to lighting if this is what youre providing. These nems require decent lighting for production of zooxanthellae which furnishes it both with color and energy. Feeding with mysis shrimp also essential.
Water flow has to be moderate. Too strong and they hide and/or deflate due to stress and will cause the anemone to stretch out and look stringy.

Nothing wrong with a bta having stringy tents. If that was the case, most of mine would be dead by now

Also, IME, the way his nem looks is showing signs of bacteria issues. If the nem wanted more light, it would walk up the tank to get it. Too little and it would walk down.

Not trying to start a debate here, but his best course of action right now is to treat it.

I have an AI prime (9 inches off water surface). It’s pretty much at full intensity. The anemone sits about 7-8 inches deep in the tank. The par in that area is (rough estimate) 150. I can’t get my hands on a par meter to get exact numbers, which is somewhat frustrating

This is what he looks like today. I moved the rock he’s on about an inch higher in the tank. He “opened” up this morning a lot quicker then normal. Maybe it is just a lighting issue. I’ll keep you guys updated

Just watch for deflation and a gaping mouth. Sick nems can still look good for a bit and then go back to crap. Also, don’t move the nem too much. They can walk around if needed.

It had deflated and a gaping mouth this morning I’ll keep an eye on it

As I stated- lighting and flow extremely important. Flow will make them move and hude- light will make them pout

He is in a great spot for flow. Not too much, not too little. A bit of “breeze” lol

Again, the gaping worries me. Keep an eye out for that and if it continues to do it, be ready to treat the nem.

He does it in the evening and in the morning. My guess is he does have some kind of illness. I have heard stories of anemones fighting off these infections on their own. I’m hoping the light will help him out a tad
