Hi I have an Anemone that wil not stay put. Traveled the entire length of the tank last night and now has buried itself in a rock - I have no idea how it got so far in - but should I assume if it got in it can get out? I figured once the lights kicked on it would come out but still wedged down inside the rock.

I don't want it to die or to have to rip the rock apart to get to it. I mean I have NO idea how it got itself into this rock. took me 15 min just to find it this am.

What species of anemone?
How long have you had it?
What size tank?
What lights do you have?
What are your current water parameters --- with numbers please.
What do you have for flow?
How long has the tank been set up?

Anemones won't just move around, something is bothering it.

It is a Green anemone - not sure the exact species -- here is a pic opened up (yesterday) been in the tank 2 weeks doing fine and my other one ( in my tank in sump room of same sump) is doing fine.

100 gallon w 75 gallon sump and 30 gallon Frag tank - all connected.

Phos - 0.015
PH - 8.1
Temp - 78
Ammonia - 0
Alk - 147
Cal - 460

What lights do you have?
What is your Salinity/SG?

You have an E. quadricolor (( BTA ))
What species is the other anemone?

Rule of thumb...an anemone is going to do what it wants to when it wants to. When I first got mine it traveled all over the tank for about 2 mths not staying in one spot more than a week before it finally settled down. After about 6 mths it decided it was time for a new home and on the move again for a couple of weeks. It finally settled and then a month or two later it disappeared for a couple of days. When it finally reappeared it looked sick to me. Turns out it was splitting and after about a week it had completed the split and was looking normal again.

Funny you say that, I went up to the place I got it and they asked me if it was the larger one - he said that when I took it he thought it was starting to split. it is out of the rock a little now - still don't know how it shoved itself in there though... lol.

Hopefully all will be okay and I will have a new one!

In this case, your nem will split due to stress. They will do weird things before they split and run around your tank when stressed. Leave him be and it's his area now.

I actually have had three nems that decided to go "hide". There was a condi, RBTA, and a neon green BTA. All were healthy and eating. They moved completely out of the light and eventually died. I have not had issues with nems before and since.

Looks great. Now next time it decides it's ready to move you won't be surprised! ;-)
