Got this guy a month ago, he was a healthy 3 inches and fully inflated for the first couple days, but has been flaccid ever since. He did initially move around a bit as expected, and I feared my light would be too bright but it has finally settled down in the perfect spot with ideal flow.
Ive done water change after water change but nothing seems to be making a difference. The only thing that has been awry as of late is my Kh, which I have been battling around 7 for the past few weeks and gets up to 8 after I dose Reef Fusion 2.. This week however it dropped to 5 but nothing in the tank seemed to care. Parameters are as follows: pH 8.1 ammonia/nitrate/nitrite show 0 on API tests. Calcium 420, Phosphate .018.
Any advice on how to better maintain alkalinity around 9 and what may be troubling my RBTA is greatly appreciated!

May be hard to see just how wimpy/unhealthy it looks in the tank. For scale, he came to me inflated the size of a softball, but now stays significantly retracted <baseball size.

Use Red Sea coral pro salt and it will be hard to keep the ALK below 9 if you change water once a week at 10% :-)
Yeah this was my previous salt prior to making the switch to Oceanic. Maintained around 9 for me, my alkalinity has never consistently been very high..

Its healthy...differences in flow and light will affect how much it expands - but not to worry - next week will be different.

Happy to hear it Rob. Thanks, it's just hard for me to fathom how much smaller it is in my tank than the guy's i purchased from. If the clowns took too it now I'm sure they would beat it to death. Fingers crossed next week will show improvement haha

good color by the way...so many that are sold are bleached...they look cool but are unhealthy. You got a good one - it will grow fast.

Yeah apparently this lineage has been going nuts splitting like crazy for a couple of the previous owners so if all goes well I should have a nice little group going soon.
Any advice on keeping alk up? Battled low pH as well but got a buffer in their and now it's only my kh that's giving me trouble..

Really hard to say...whats growing? If stuff is growing fast the alk will drop before you notice the ca drop.
I generally just use baking soda if i need a little boost - it doesn't swing the ph as much and is pretty hard to over do.
