I just came home to look at my tank noticed everything was good. Ate some dinner looked back in the tank and my green bubble tip has its mouth wide open and appears to be spewing some kind of crap out of its mouth. I just shriveled up and looks really bad. He ate two days ago and looked good five minutes ago I am wondering if he just up and died or what. This thing looks wicked sick.

Can you post a pic. Keep an eye on it you'll know when its dead cause it'll get really nasty looking. Keep in mind they shrivel up to expel waste for their mouth and anus are the same thing. If this is the case it should be back to normal soon, keep us posted.

my tank is a year and a half old. I have had the anemone for five months. I know about expelling water but this is way worse. it now looks to be closed. before when expelling water it you could not see its foot. now all kinds of nasty stuff is coming out of its mouth. the mouth is open. sorry can not do a picture. my phone is not that good and I do not know where the cable is for my digital camera. My other anemone looks good. Its a long finger like anemone. my green bbltp is way funky looking. I will test water now and see where the levels are at

water checked out. this is the second one i have lost the first was because of phosphate. I will look again in the morning and see if it is still all funky looking. the clown fish does not want any thing to do with it either. this just happened. I practically watched it die. I just do not get it. Maybe its not dead but it looks pretty sad. why do so many people look at the treads and not post comments?

pics would help but there couldbe a lot of reasons. As far as your other comment, we are curious but may not have an answer.

He might be expelling waste or expelling his Algae. Just watch him does your water have a strong odor of fish?

I have a 100 gallon system. as far as I can tell it just smells like the ocean. I know it is supposed to expel water and inflate again. But this is the first time i have ever seen a bunch of mucous like stuff come out of its mouth. It is also more deflated than I have ever seen. my phosphates are between .1 and .25 I have an api test kit. I have battled phosphate for months now just now getting it back to a reasonable rate.

Mine started doing the same thing about 4 days ago. It has yet to come back to the same size, it keeps getting bigger then smaller and has moved around alot in that time.. It is now very small and hiding behind a rock looking bad.. Hope yours pulls though.. Good luck

It really sounds like expelling waste to me.

you guys called it. Thanks be to god. my green japaneese bubble anemone is big and beautiful today. I have had him for quite some time and never have I seen it expell what it put off yesturday. All is well in the reef today. who would of thought mucous was normal. It once again patience paid. I was going to peal him off the rock and through it in the garbage last night. I have seen it all now

That's fantastic.

Mine does that daily almost like clockwork. Lights come on at noon, it deflates between 7 and 8 and stays that way looking half dead for maybe 2-3 hours. I also see alot of nems doing that at the Petco I work at and I've learned to recognize dying or pooping after seeing several die in the store after poor shipments.

I just read this. glad to hear the nem is ok... And thank you for the post as it taught me something I didnt know about nems (which I hope to have one day!)
