Anemone not eating not sticky!?

Ok guys so i will be setting up the 20 gallon long on Wednesday or Thursday. any tips for setting it up?

Get some live rock/bottled bacteria to cycle it if your filter media isn’t enough or mature yet.

I don't think I will need bottled bacteria I already have live rock in my 5 gallon and plenty of cycled 4 month old filter media and sponges and. And I have already ordered 20 pounds of live sand.

@Nem1clownfish2 there is so much information on this site that can help you. It’s a great idea to move the rock from your old tank — but don’t use your old sand.

So nano925 looks like you also live in California would you recommend a fish store in California that sells these RODI water jugs for a good price? Any chance you live in Los Angeles CA, where I live?

I live up in the Bay Area. Any RO or RODI water will be fine. Usually at the grocery store,Walmart or some stand alone water stores. You can find jugs at Walmart or LFS or hardware store. I got some 7 gallon jugs from Walmart. They were about 15 bucks a pc and a well worth it investment. My suggestion is to get something not clear if your going to store it for any period of time. I also buy my saltwater pre mixed from my LFS and use one container for saltwater and one for fresh. Hope this helps and if you need any help please ask. down south of LA they sell RODI for 30cents a gallon at the LFS. You can alternatively get RODI from the big blue vending machines outside of the supermarkets for 35ish cents a gallon. Hope this helps. 60 cents a gallon is a bit pricey.

Some would say if your worried about 30 cents your in the wrong hobby but also there is principle. My suggestion considering the times we are currently experiencing support your local fish store and buy as much from them as reasonably possible. Especially here in California rent and overhead really make fish stores far a few between. Do what you can for the little fish!

Use all your old stuff except the sand like the other user suggested and just let it cycle. It’s hard to just look at a pile of nothing for a month but in the end it will make everything so much easier and satisfying. Test your water and then see if your LFS will test it. Front load on research and just research research and keep asking questions like your doing and you will have a blast. Good luck and look forward to seeing your new setup! Your best bet is to buy an ROD I set up does not cost very much maybe $200 then you have to buy the filters they need to be replaced every six months or so

Cheaper is not always better find out what the TDS is of the water if it’s not zero they can keep it for whatever price it is

This is true. I've never had a problem with the blue vending machines and used them exclusively for over 2 years. Now with my new set up I've used exclusively the LFS RODI water and have not had an issue with it. I'll ask them what the TDS is next time I do a fill up.

I would definitely add more rock (preferably from an established reef) and beneficial bacteria, important because its a bigger tank than you had. You also might want to ask your local store to hold on to the anemone at least til the other tank is established. And you said you bought a kessil a160 but what are the dimensions of the tank? Its a great light but only covers a certain amount of space

Alright guys i just finished setting up the 20 long and here it is! It has been set up for about 24 hours now. The tank includes rock from the 5 gallon sand from the 5 gallon and 20 lb of live sand I got yesterday. It has a hang on the back filter with seachem purgin or whatever you call it and I bag of filter media. There is also an internal filter that was in the 5 gallon with a bunch of cycled filter sponges. There is a 75 watt heater that is at 80f and a kessil a160 light. And yes I went to my local fish store underwater depot and got RODI water in a little jug for 75c a gallon. Sadly I lost my cleaner shrimp I loved so much I guess I he got really stressed from the move because he died while he was acclimating to the new tank.

Try chemipure blue. It’s like pureigen and activated carbon mixed. Works great!

tanks looking good. always sucks to lose stuff but it happens. it was most likely going to die anyway if you didnt change anything as invertebrates can be vulnerable to heavy metals in tap water. you will most likely need some sort of bacterial additive (ie. Dr. tims or Fritzzyme 9) just to help the mini-cycle that will take place due to the move because extra water and sand (even though its live) needs extra bacteria in it to process fish waste. You are off to a great start though so keep it up and definitely check ammonia just in case a cycle started

@Nem1clownfish2 looks like you’re off to a great start! I dont know if your tank will cycle again, but definitely monitor your ammonia and nitrates. Try to avoid API test kits as folks say they aren’t very accurate. I like Salifert tests as they’re inexpensive and work well.

Guys I am do depressed right now!! The anemone got sucked up in the filter intake!!! I am literally crying right now!! I woke up to look at the tank and I couldn't find the anemone any where! Then I saw its foot sticking out of the filter intake! I immediately turned off the filter and took out the filter intake and had to rip off some of the anemone to get it out! But luckily he is not dead I will post a picture right here. Please help me!! What should I do!! I am so sorry! I am so scared!
