Hi, everyone.
About a month ago, I purchased a Hawaiian Punch BTA. This is my first anemone, and also a pretty pricey one (so, you know, a pretty big risk).
At first it took up residence under the backside of a rock and stayed there for about three weeks, and looked pretty healthy all the while (or at least, what I could see of the nem, given it’s annoying position). Then about five days ago, after a water change, it went on the move, circling around the rock a few times, then deciding to live underneath the rock (out of direct light, it seemed). I really wanted to move it because it seemed like it needed more light and flow, but if there’s one thing I’ve read, it’s to let anemones do what they please, as long as it isn’t hurting anything else. In the new spot, it started to close.
Well, a few more days went by and it remained only partially open, like so:
I decided to feed it reefroids to provide some supplements, as it clearly wasn’t doing much photosynthesis at the moment.
And as of today, it finally came into the light, but looks like this:
I’m not normally one to overly panic, but this doesn’t feel right. At all. And for a $100+ nem, I don’t want to screw this up. Is there something that can be done to reverse whatever this is, or is it a goner?
I’d be willing to provide some water tests if you’re all ok with API’s messy results. I keep meaning to shell out the money for a better kit, but I always walk out of the store with some expensive corals rather than what I actually need. Normally I just judge the water quality on the fact that every coral is thriving (though I am aware that there is much more to parameters than that). Call me irresponsible, because after this long, I should probably have gotten a better test kit…
Would the best course of action be to do another water change for stability, or would this tick the nem off even more? Thanks in advance!!
