So i was quarantining my little clown and his anemone because i have some issues with the other fish and him. But all of a sudden, his anemone has not been opening for 2 or 3 days straight. Any help?

Tank parametera
Salinity: 1.025
Temp 77F
Nitrates, nitrite, ammonia, 0
Phosphate and magnesium i cant test
Calcium 420ppm
Dkh 10-11
I use api master test kit.
Thanks.

the anemone is in the QT tank now? if yes, thats likely why its unhappy, a QT tank is a sterile environment, not at all the kind of environment it needs and wants. The display tank is a more suitable environment.

was the clown and anemone a recent purchase together?

if so, did you ever put them in the main display or were they put right into a quarantine tank?

i ask because i've had clowns that have been hosted by nems get bullied by new additions and the clowns were so territorial with the nems that they would be too aggressive diving in and out of the nem to try and ward off the bullies. I observed my nems close up due to the constant pounding.

Yes it is, i never put it in the dt because i knew there would be issues. I eventually tried and he went to host my other 2 anemones that are in the dt and happy. He got bullied instantly. (The clown) Point is the nem was never in the display tank. It was open so much for a while to but not anymore.

I bought them together. I never had them in the display tank until around a week later. The nem wasnt ever in the display tank. The clown went to host my 2 other nems and he was still being attacked. I put him back with his anemone and end of story. Im going to return the fish attacking him so he can be a free little fish. Plus the anemone in the small little quaritine used to be super happy and fully extended for like a week straight.

Nitrate being zero is an issue as well as no phosphate reading. How old is the tank? What kind of BTA are you trying to mix? How long were they in the same tank before issues?

Im aware of the nitrate problem, trying to fix it along with no phosphate readings. Tank is 12 years old, mixing rainbow btas and green bta. All anemones in display tank are doing fine but the one in quarintine with the clown is just super closed. It started a week or two after i bought the clown and anemone together.

Running carbon? Anecdotal evidence out there of these 2 colirations not getting along.

What is age of tank? If a newer tank - not ready for an anemone due to the many chemistry changes that stress it out. Acclimation- How did you acclimate and for how long?
At introduction, its best to turn off flow a couple of hours to allow the anemone to find a happy spot and plant its foot.
Assure moderate light and water flow. Too much flow and they will hide. Too little light and they will shrink. Too much light and they will hide or ball up

Nope no carbon. But does it matter? They are pretty spread apart.
Chemical warfare. Others have had the same issue. Carbon can help remove what ever it is they are putting out. Some anemone just don't seem to mix.

Yep the nem probably be better in the DT so it can settle in its new home and water conditions. Best method for nems float / drip then after salinity and temperature in the bag are the same as DT put it in some people just temperature and put them in but doing it my way covers all bases imo . Then leave alone is the secret. Only be concerned if gaping mouth for long period and not been able to foot too any thing . Good luck and keep us posted

why not add the anemone to the DT? it would give the new clown it's anemone back.
Because i have some fish i wanna return because they try to murder litterally every fish. Once i tried putting his anemone and him in the display tank with my 2 other nems for more protection and those little damsels still ripped up his back little fin. So to calm him down i put him back with his nem. I want to catch those mean little damsels but its a whole operation because i have so much rock.
