It’s still hard to tell exactly what you are talking about. But sponges do send out white hairlike ____… things as they grow..If I remember correctly. I’m not a expert on sponges so I’d have to bump for more info. I’m also guessing that white/orangish ball is a sponge. Did you just get new LR?

Quick search, yes, some sponges have feeder tentacles

 

[damsels are not mean]

I believe those are a type of sycon (pineapple sponge). Generally harmless but will spread fast in an empty but well fed tank. If you don't like, remove.
