THe reef shop that had these said they are not anemones, closer to zoanthids. A buddy of mine has some also and said they were not anemones. They do not move around.
Any idea what they are?

they do look like zoos, but they also look like a duncan polyp. i would be willing to bet they are zoos or palys. there wouldn't be that many anemones near each other

sort of reminds me of this one but they are just calling it a sea anemone/??

they look like purdy nems to me, polyps are solitary, not connected by a matt and the skirt looks evil. I was once sold some palys that turned out to be glass nems. they were all on one rock in a littly paly lookin colony. But they had that same evil lookin skirt and they were not attached to a shared matt.A few hrs after being in my tank they started movin off the rock

I've had these below...
Anemones and zoanthids are types of polyps.
Because the tentacles are alternating in different rows it is not similar to a zoanthid. It's a different kind of polyp anemone, keep an eye on it... Possibly move it to the sump or contain it in some way. That way if it does spread, you'll have it spread in a controlled fashion. But I highly doubt that they will explode in a crazy population in your tank unless you're feeding crazily.

Kind of looks like rock anemones (Epicystis crucifer, think that's right). Since there is no mat, and they look like they are embeded in the rock.

I am thinking Mojano. Many different Mojanos have the most amazing color until they get our of control.

I would recommend keeping the rock away from other rocks in case it is Mojano then you can pull the rock out before it spreads too far. They are cool looking.

Just keep an eye on them. If they spread too quickly, syringe them with kalk paste.

Most zoanthids have 2 rings of alternating tentacles as well as flattened and smooth oral discs.
That oral disc is not flat and yours have four rows of tentacles correct, correct?

Do you have any of these?

No, but if it's the one I'm thinking of, you brought me one at a meet so I could propagate them.

I took it home, spent about forty-five minutes carefully acclimating it and finding the perfect spot to put it in the tank. No sooner had I removed my hand from the tank and sat back to admire my handiwork than my Sailfin Tang dashed over and devoured the thing in one bite.

That's the closest that tang has come to finding itself in a fancy fishtank made by American Standard.

Now I'm annoyed all over again.... excuse me while I go find a net so I can spend a few minutes chasing that tang around the tank...

Well. I thought as much. I was finding it difficult to accept them as zoanthids though yes, they are in the same grouping of sea anemones both the true anemones and colonial. So why did I waste my hard earned cash for them? Because I am gullible and a sucker for something different I guess.
