Im looking Into buying a big carpet anemone and wanted to know about quarantining it. It will be buying it from Petco that is the reason for the question. Don't know how to treat it for disease.

i believe cipro is what is commonly used. I didn't QT mine and it didn't last long :(

Anemones wont bring in any fish parasites like ich except for possibly the free swimming stage in the water with the nem. Mostly nem diseases require treatment but dont effect fish. I'm not up on how to treat nems though. Putting it in a QT for a couple weeks would insure that there are no fish parasites lurking in the water the nem came in..... well they would die out and not be there any more.

That's what im afraid of. My qt has a new clown tang in it that has only been there a few days. Don't want to get him infected.

I would suggest waiting on the nem until the clown tang is out of QT.... OR.... Set up another tank for the nem. OR you can just rinse the nem very well in tank water before putting it in the display and just put it directly in there. I dont know how good of an idea that is however since I dont have a ton of experience with carpet nems.

Maybe @Tahoe61 has some insight about QT in carpet nems.

What type of carpet Stichodactyla haddoni or Stichodactyla gigantea?

My best piece of advice it to put stichodactyla gigantea anemone prophylactic treatment with ciprofloxacin into your search engine, you'll find threads by OrionN, he is a member here also I believe. There is a wealth of information but look for the member I mention or an individual with a lot of experience with carpets.

I would not QT any anemone and fish together.

If you're spending a lot of money on a Gigantea it would behoove you to consider the treatment.

Just curious as I am new to nems. Is this because this nem commonly comes in with its own type of infection?

Short explanation is Anemones are prone to bacterial infections during transport and acclimation, Cipro is a wide spectrum antibiotic that will treat many bacterial infections. @Naiad review the link provided by Humblefish it will answer pretty much any questions you have regarding the topic.
