Anemone Question

So I noticed yesterday night at lights out that my nem has two marks on it that were not noticeable before.
They look like the sidewall of the foot is bubbled and getting ready to pop open. Sort of like the blisters you see on a second and third degree burn victim (minus the infection).
I do however have another nem in the tank that is a maxi mini, but it lives over 10 inches away and never moves. There is nothing else in the general area that can sting or touch the nem.

Here is a picture of the nem after lights out (best time to view the location I am talking about when it is not fully extended and while it is getting ready to sleep for the night.

Nope.. nothing that goes near it. I do have a electric blue hermit crab, but it never has gotten too close to the nem before in a year. Other then that..... the only fish that swims past it is my six line wrasse. Even the clown fish does not go near the BTA...:mad:

I did try goole first... did not find anything like it on there.
As for the men hosting the clown... I bought this one because it was hosting at the store.. Got it home and it quickly swam to the nem and dove right in.... about 3 min later it said F it and now swims around it, but never in it..LOL
I will try the clownfish slide, but I'm doubting it is going to work...lol

I have 60 or so BTAs in my system. I started with a dozen nickel sized a little less than a year ago. They seem to be able to reproduce in more than one way. You typically hear about splitting - but rarely hear about budding. With budding - a piece of the foot protrudes off and crawls away - or a chunk of tentacle tears off - blows away and hangs by a thread until a new foot develops.

I've never seen the whole process for either - just the results. With a foot bud - you see a stump of an anenome close to the parent which has no tentacles at first - they develop later. With the tentacle bud - you see a small clump of tentacles hanging by an impossibly thin thread to a rock - usually some distance from the parent. On these the foot develops from the thread.

I know its weird - but I've seen a number of examples of both types of split. As a matter of fact the typical "split" doesn't seem to happen much in my tank. Keep an eye on it - it may be a developing bud. If you google around - you'll see it described for other anenomes and zoas - I could find nothing for BTAs. But it happens.

cool! I have a green/blue BTA hiding under a cave is that normal????

Nems can crawl and will find the spot they want. In my system, the greens take the lower light areas around the base of the rocks and the reds climb for as much light as they can get. Some will hide in the shadows for a bit - then move if they want more light, less or more flow etc. I let them do what they like for the most part. Sometimes they decide to take up residence next to a coral - I move whichever is easiest. I do have one that likes to attach to the bottom of my giant sqamosa clam. I've moved him a couple of time and he always finds his way back. The clam doesn't seem to care either way.

it would be interesting if it is budding...but from what all I saw on it, budding comes from the base of the foot of the nem... these are spots on the nem about 3 inches from the base when it is fully open.

I will keep doing research in hopes it is not on a self destructive path.
