Hey guys,
My RBTA died pretty suddenly after 2 years. He was about 10-12 niches open, hosted a clown pair, looked great. Nothing changed in the tank- but after a brief sandstorm in the tank (powerhead fell, opposite side of 6 foot tank) the nem retracted for a couple days then started turning black and loosing pieces. I think the sandstorm was just coincidence and I’m 90% sure this stupid giant non-reef-safe paved mithrax crab tore into him but never actually saw it- but the crab def killed my feather duster and eats coral. Just curious if anyone knows other reasons of sudden death in nems? I have 4 rock flowers in the tank- all fine. Fish and corals fine. Parameters good and stable for years. (Occasionally mild swings in mag/ca/alk between dosing but always within normal parameters). Thoughts on nem death? I’d like to get another but not till I catch the stupid crab and I want to make sure there’s no other factors I should correct. Thanks!

Id check for rust or exposed metal. Any voltage in the water?

I dont know how you'd test for stray voltage? I mean- everything else is alive? no rust that i can see or metal other than the reef safe stuff on the sump equipment. the nem went from fine to dead in a few days and was the only thing affected in the tank. im so bummed.

Get a mulimeter and set it to volts. One probe in the tank and the otber in the ground prong of an outlet. Check some vids online.
