so my anemone started moving from his spot after 2 weeks he shrivled up and i read they do this when they move 1. is this true? and two could an open mouth be anything other than it dieing beause hes been fine and i jsut did a 20% water change in the tank with ro/di water and there hasnt been fish in it for 4 weeks so i havnt been feeding the tank often at all so the params should be fine. any ideas

Need a lot more information.

How long has the tank been set up?
What size is the tank?
What species is the Anemone?
How long have you had the Anemone?
What lighting do you have?
What are the 4 fish?
What are your actual water parameters and what test kits are you using to test?
Do you dose anything at all? If so, what?

Describe your tank maintenance schedule?

Yeah, anemones can be real picky about alot of things. More info will definitely get you a better response. Any response you get right now would be no more than a guess.

Was the anemone expelling anything from the mouth? Perhaps it was merely removing waste. I know mine looks horrible when its "taking care of business".

ya two ball things were hanging from its mouth. but its been looking the same all day. how long does it take to expel waste

Mine looks better after an hour or two. What color was the stuff? Brownish? Or was it looking more like the anemone was "spilling it guts" so to speak?

no it was brownish didnt look like guts to me, thats what i originally thought it was but after all day i got nervous and wasnt sure

I'd just keep an eye on it. You'll know if it's gonna die. Lucky for you right now, if it does die, there isn't much to wipe out in your tank.

Sounds like it could still be getting used to your tank. I'd just leave it be for now. If it moves, don't try to stop it or relocate it. Let it do it's thing and keep an eye on it.

ok thanks, i think you were right fishlipz and it was just expelling waste cuz i just got home and glanced in the tank adn he looks happy as can be

if the nem looks iike it is melting take it out.. it will cause you problems when it dies and if you try to set the tank back up you can also have toxicity problems also with that..

I have some pretty moody BTAs that occasionally exhibit that same egestion behavior. From my experience, I think that brown stuff is partially-digested food scraps and a whole lot of mucus. So far, all my BTAs return to normal... I agree with FishLipz and returnofsid to just keep an eye on it for now. Hope it bucks up!
