Well as the title states, I am looking for a rock solid recommendation for an anemone for my 60-gl Cube. The cube is mostly LPS and has been up and running since the Fall. I have a 180-gl SPS tank that houses a Ritteri, but I do not have the size and lighting requirements for one in my 60-gl Cube.

To that end, I am planning on purchasing a pair of captive bred B & W Ocellaris and need a nice home for them.

Any recommendation for an anemone for a tank of that size would be greatly appreciate.

And, if anyone has any recommendations for a good online vendor to purchase one from, that would help too!

Many thanks in advance.....have a great holiday weekend.

It would all depend on your lighting and how much room you are willing to give to the nem. Since you say you dont have the lighting for a Ritteri then you dont have the lighting for a Gig either. Other options could be LTA, Crispa, Malu, BTA, or Haddoni. A 250w MH, LED or T-5 setup with individual reflectors could cover your lighting needs for those nems

My lighting on my 60-gl Cube is an ATI PM T-5 24" (6) setup. And yes, I do not want it to take up too much room. That's why I am wondering with my options are as it relates to size and space needed.

Keep 'em coming........

If your bulbs have individual reflectors I think its fine for the nems i listed.

H. Malu only grows to about 8-10in and stay on the sand bed (that would be good news for your coral)

BTAs can get fairly big (I have seen some the size of basketballs) or split regularly causing them to wander the tank and sting coral (Some BTAs do stay small though)

LTAs & Haddonis can get to about 20in but would stay on the sand bed as well

Also I just remembered, I have seen ocellaris be hosted by Rock Flower anemones (These grow about 8in). While it is possible its not probable to happen, still a pretty looking nem on its own in either case.

Thanks Johnnathan.......as you mentioned about BTA, I am concerned about how large they get. I may in fact shoot for a Haddonis.

Thx again for your input.........

I had a lta for about a year until my mp10 ate it. It was about the size of a volley ball fully open. But the 2 b&w occi clowns I bought never even glanced at it. I don't know if you would have better luck but just wanted to throw that out there :-)

My experience as well...after splitting they had a tendency to find my vortech. Makes for an unhappy tank.

If you go with a Haddoni, keep in mind they will eat ANYTHING! I really liked mine, but after several snails and my Halloween urchin; yes, it ate my urchin...I got rid of it. I would opt for something like H. Crispa or Malu. Your light fixture will keep pretty much anything. What's the footprint of your tank?

If you are looking for something to host your percs, I would not recommend a BTA. They are not natural host for percs to begin with and since your are tank bred you may find they never take to it. I know a great many of people have had luck with them hosting in their BTAS but I really think your best chances would be a carpet.
