I’m getting a CSB soon that will be in my nem/softie tank. However, I would like to get some inverts for the tank as well and want to make sure that they will be fine with the nem. Haven’t heard anything that they wouldn’t but given the overall price of the CSB, I want to be cautious!

Mainly, a peppermint shrimp (short term to kill off some aptasia) and either a cleaner/fire or a watchman goby/pistol shrimp. Additionally, would these two shrimp be safe to keep together? If not, will just get the other after the peppermint does it’s job.

Peppermints, Fire, and pistol should all be fine tankmates both with each other and you CSB. Sexy shrimp and anemone shrimp will both use the nem as a host which is pretty cool to see. Let’s get some pics of that nem!!

And don’t forget the porcelain crab!!!! Awesome little things that dance all day with their arms outs screening food from the water.

excuse my crappy pic, but you can see the 5th pair of pereiopods that they use like fans to filter bits out of the water.

"Peppermint shrimp" is a name for multiple different species. Some of them are extremely not reef-safe, some are iffy in a reef, and many of them will bother anemones.

Cleaner shrimp may attack peppermint shrimp. Pistol shrimp are fine with both, since they live under a rock and don't encounter the other shrimp.

I would avoid mixing peppermint/fire shrimps with anemones. They will constantly bother them for food and sometimes irritate them to death

Is there a better option to get rid of aptasia? I know file fish but they are hard in QT and don’t really want one long term. Can’t do a butterfly due to the tank being 45g.

I had one of those when I had anenomesin my tank, he was fun to watch.

There’s also a little anenome shrimp that is fun. He hangs out in the anenome too.

berghia nudibranchs are really good for taking out aptasia but if you can’t get them then I would get the shrimp and then remove it before the csb comes in

Will check and see. I just did a treatment of F Aiptasia and don’t see any more poking around. I have a nem box I can use as well to keep it away if needed.
