Hi all,

I performed a 15 gallon water change this morning, typically once a month. About two hours ago I see my RBTA shriveled to nearly nothing. Prior to this it was nearly 6” across and seemed happy and healthy.
Water parameters are the same as prior to the water change.
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 77
Calcium: 420
Mag: 1375
Alk: 8.1
Nitrates: near 0

Fish and other soft corals seem to be fine. The saltwater is held in a used, but cleaned 55 gallon poly drum. I’ve been using this since October 2019. Could something be leaching out that the anemone is extra sensitive too? Should I remove it before it poisons the tank?

thanks in advance

Anemones can be very temperamental sometimes. The slightest change can cause them to sulk for hours. I doubt you added anything toxic to the tank, but before you do anything drastic you might want to give the anemone 24 hours or so to bounce back to normal. If it still looks crappy then you might have to start looking for some answers. GL.

Don't panic yet. Mine do this all the time for no reason.

mine did the same last night. The reason was the light switch from whites to all blues made it mad.

Thank you all for the replies. Such a dramatic change in a short period of time. Glad to hear this is “normal” behavior. I’ll report back if anything changes.

Zero nitrates?
I would maintain nitrates between 2-10ppm and phosphates between 0.03-.1
Zero will not work long term

I accidentally hit mine with a little jet of water today cleaning my rocks with my target feeder, he got upset and shriveled up.

He's still small, but finally opened up a bit.

He also shrivels up when my lights start ramping down at night..

I know I’m a bit late but the anemone is mostly water (kind of like humans) and changes the water out of its body when you change the water ☺️ Kind of like a refresh. Hope your nem is doing well! It’s beautiful.

My nem does this every time for weekly water changes and then bubbles right up the next day.
