Hey all,

When I went to sleep last night, my anemone was doing fine--a little tangent but if someone could give me an ID on this little guy that'd be super helpful I took it in from a friend and he doesn't know either--but when I turned on the lights and looked at it now, its stomach was protruding outward a bit. The clownfish hosting it also grabbed a piece of clam floating around and brought it to the anemone a few days ago but the anemone didn't grab onto it. How worried should I be? I'll attach a photo below

It may or may not be important to note that I got the anemone a few days ago and the first day I got it, it spawned. Could that be something that influenced its stomach to come out?

For reading this far you get a riddle for today (an easy one so no cheating) I'll post the answer tomorrow. Good luck.
  • What fish in the ocean is the brightest?
Thank you in advance.

That really looks like my magnifica. It's normal for their mouths to pucker like that. Not sure if it's normal or not for them to have sticky tentacles after introduction.

Brightest fish- lanternfish?

The beginning of its tentacles are a light green and the tips of the tentacles are a bright pinkish red but more on the pink side. I looked up magnifica anemones and they don't seem to have this coloration but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Since the time of the posting the anemone has since shriveled up a lot more. Could the anemone be too small for the clarkii? The clarkii is about 2.5 inches across and the anemone when fully opened is 5-6 inches in diameter. Could it be stressing the anemone out? I had a green haddoni that was doing fine until I introduced the clown in the tank and it started hosting it and the haddoni started shriveling up. Is the clarkii being too aggressive?

Close guess! But not the answer I was thinking of

Would need to see more photos, but i agree it does look like a Mag based on that pic... good luck! They can be difficult to acclimate. I would also say the anemone appears much to small for the clownfish.

When my clowns began homing in my anemone they were about the same sizes you mention in your post. Don't go crazy with feeding it directly. Check to see if the clowns are bringing food to its mouth. Mine do that but in the beginning they didn't so I would spot feed the anemone.

Yeah, I don't know what changed but the anemone seems to be doing a lot better now. It still recedes here and there but for the most part its open a lot!!

I thought so too but I saw it fully open for the first time and the clown is dwarfed in it! I don't know what changed but I'm not complaining!!

A bright fish could be a lanternfish but I think the brightest fish would be the sunfish!

My anemone does this nightly as well. I was concerned at first; glad to see I’m not the only one! My clowns have also recently started hosting it about a month ago. I was at a loss because all of my parameters were spot on
